U.S. Women's U-17s Decimate Bahamas 10-0

Summer came early in Guatemala this year as Summer Green, just a day after her 17th birthday, scored 5 goals in the U.S.'s 10-0 rout of the Bahamas in their opening game of Group B play at the 2012 CONCACAF U-17 Women’s Championships. Green became the third American women to score 5 goals in an international match this year joining Senior National Teamers Amy Rodriguez and Sydney Leroux who both accomplished the feat during Olympic Qualifying. Margaret Purce added a hat trick while Andi Sullivan and Toni Payne also scored for the U.S. The score could've been a lot worse as the U.S. outshot the Bahamas 52-1 striking the post several times and forcing Bahamian keeper Cori Strachan into making 17 saves.

The U.S. now gets ready to take on Trinidad & Tobago on Saturday and they conclude Group Play against Mexico on Monday.

A Look Back at the 2011 NBA Draft

1. Kyrie Irving - Cleveland Cavaliers - PG - Despite playing just 11 games for Duke, Irving had no issues adjusting to the NBA game. In 51 appearances, all starts, for the Cavs, he scored a team high 18.5 points and dished out a team leading 5.4 assists. The MVP of the Rising Stars Challenge at NBA All-Star Weekend, Irving scored a career high 32 points against the Nets on January 27th and recorded his first double-double against the Hawks on March 18th.

2. Derrick Williams - Minnesota Timberwolves - SF/PF - Williams was the only member of the T-Wolves to play in all 66 games this season and while he was primarily used as a reserve, he did make 15 starts. Williams averaged 8.8 points and 4.7 rebounds on the year and played a major role in helping Minnesota to nearly 10 more wins than in the previous season despite playing 16 fewer games. Williams scored 27 points in a game twice during the year, once against the Clippers on February 28th and then most recently against the Nuggets on April 11th. He recorded two double-doubles on the year.

3. Enes Kanter - Utah Jazz - C/PF - The 6'11" Kanter appeared in every game for the Jazz this season helping spell Al Jefferson and Paul Millsap at the 4 and 5. Kanter averaged 4.6 points and 4.2 rebounds and scored a career high 17 in a 4-point win over the Lakers on March 18th. Kanter has also appeared in both of Utah's postseason games thus far averaging 5 points and 6.5 rebounds.

MLS Recap - Week 8

FC Dallas 1 Real Salt Lake 1 - Brek Shea scored his second goal of the season when he converted a penalty kick in first half stoppage time, but Real Salt Lake rallied for the tie thanks to Emiliano Bonfigli's first MLS goal. The 23 year old Argentinian came on as a substitute for Paulo Jr. and took a pass from Will Johnson and beat goalkeeper Chris Seitz for the equalizer. Seitz started for the second straight match for Kevin Hartman who continues to deal with back spasms. Dallas got more bad news on the injury front in this one as midfielder Carlos Rodríguez had to be stretchered off with a dislocated elbow early in the second half.

Midweek Mailbag

Well Well well... it seems like the San Diego Chargers have picked up former LSU QB Jarrett Lee. I know a TON of haters who said that he was garbage as a qb, and yet the Chargers, who have a pretty darn good qb themselves, seem to think he was worth the effort and the money. How do you see him shaking out? - Cory L., Raceland, LA

I wouldn't read too much into this signing. Lee was not drafted so the Chargers picked him up as an unrestricted free agent. Now it's not unheard of for undrafted quarterbacks to succeed in the NFL (Kurt Warner), but it's not typically a glowing endorsement to have the starting quarterback for Chattanooga picked over you. And while Lee would seem to be a fit for the third quarterback slot on San Diego, the past two seasons the Chargers have only carried two quarterbacks. And I'm not sure I see Lee beating out Rivers or backup Charlie Whitehurst to earn himself a roster spot. Stranger things have happened though and if Lee shines in the preseason there's always a chance he sticks or someone else sees him and takes a liking to his potential. Bottom line, I'd hold off on getting your personalized Jarrett Lee Chargers jersey for the time being.

Lushbucket Baseball League - Week 4 Recap

Four weeks into Fantasy Baseball and we're finally starting to see a little bit of separation between the top and the bottom, but there's still a long way to go. After a disappointing Week 3, the Flying Cave Donkies got back to their winning ways thanks to an offensive explosion and a league high 12 home runs.
