The last time Kendrick Perkins stepped onto the court in a Celtics uniform was in Game 6 of the NBA Finals. After tearing his ACL in the first quarter of that Game 6, arguably changing the course of the 2010 NBA Finals, it was projected that Perkins would be until at least the All-star break, but his recovery went quicker than expected and Perkins found himself ready to go for yesterday's game against Cleveland. Perkins' return couldn't have come at a better time for Boston as aged centers Shaquille and Jermaine O'Neal are both sidelined with injuries forcing rookie Turkish center Semih Erden into a starting role. After Erden got into early foul trouble, Perkins made his 2011 debut with about 8 minutes to go in the first quarter and he turned in a solid performance. In 17 minutes, Perkins would finish with 7 points and 6 rebounds while also dishing out 3 assists as the Celtics cruised to a 112-95 victory against the hapless Cavaliers. Cleveland had 7 players score in double figures led by Christian Eyenga's 15, but it wasn't close to enough as they were completely overmatched in this one. Cleveland has now dropped 18 in a row and fell to 3-23 on the road, 8-37 overall. The Cavs have a couple of days to recover before heading home to take on the Nuggets on Friday as they look to avoid tying their record for consecutive losses during a season set during the 1981-1982 campaign. J.J. Hicksoon added 12 points and 17 rebounds, the 5th time in the last 9 games that he's had at least 14.
So heres my comment. Why is it the Celtics are good after I leave Boston? When you and I went to the Celts - Knicks game Boston barely won and thats because there weren't too many teams worse than the Knicks that year. The year I left Boston the Celtics won the NBA Championship, the Red Sox won the World Series and the Patriots went to the Super Bowl. Hell, even the Bruins made it to the post season for the first time in YEARS ( if I recall, they got wrecked when we saw them play, but had some good fights)!
ReplyDeleteTrivia question, what year did I leave Boston. Matt, you can't answer since you were there, and thats totally cheating.
Aw come on, but I actually know the answer! Speaking of trivia, here's a good one for you. Who's the only major league baseball player to win the MVP award in both the American and National League?
