Stephen Strasburg took the mound tonight for the Potomac Nationals of the Carolina League and was in near top form as he tossed 3 shutout innings in his second rehab start. Strasburg didn't allow a ball out of the infield and needed just 33 pitches (26 strikes) to get through his 3 innings of work. He allowed only two infield singles, his fastball topped out at 98 miles per hour and he struck out five as he continued to march down the road to recovery. In his two minor league starts Strasburg has now gone 4 2/3 innings allowing just 1 run on 5 hits while striking out 9. He is yet to walk a batter this year. Assuming there are no setbacks in the coming days, Strasburg is expected to make his next rehab start in 5 days or so, but it remains to be seen at what level that will be at. The hope is still to have Strasburg available to the Nationals by the end of August or beginning of September.
