Around the other confederations, New Zealand remains the top ranked team from the Oceania Football Confederation (OFC) coming in at 118, Japan is tops amongst the Asian Football Confederation (AFC) coming in at number 19 and Ivory Coast (Côte d'Ivoire) leads the Confederation of African Football despite dropping two spots down to number 18. The Ivory Coast has a chance to make up some ground in the rankings this month though with the African Cup of Nations kicking off on Saturday.
Finally, Mexico is still the highest ranked side from the Confederation of North, Central American and Caribbean Association Football (CONCACAF) holding steady at number 21. The United States, idle since their win over Slovenia on November 15th, moved up one spot to number 33 as they pass Egypt who dropped 5 spots to number 36. The U.S. is just days away from its 2012 opener against Venezuela on Saturday.
