Solid Champions League Start for MLS Sides

Both the Seattle Sounders and L.A. Galaxy cruised to first round wins in the CONCACAF Champions League tonight. Seattle overcame an early 1-0 deficit and a red card to Lamar Neagle to blow out Guatemalan side Comunicaciones 4-1 in their opener. Brad Evans netted the equalizer and Mike Fucito scored a pair of second half goals to lead the way for the Sounders. Fucito, a 25 year old midfielder, had scored just one MLS goal in 15 regular season games over the past two seasons for Seattle. The Galaxy meanwhile got goals from Adam Cristman and Landon Donovan as they defeated Honduran side Motagua 2-0. The top two teams in each Group will advance to the Championship Round in March so picking up three early points is a big deal. In today's other matches Costa Rica's Alajuelense defeated Mexico's Morelia 1-0 behind a goal from Jonathan McDonald and Mexico's Santos defeated Honduran side Real España 3-2 thanks to a goal from second half substitute Cristian Suárez to break a 2-2 tie in the 74th minute. Tomorrow's schedule has 3 more games with MLS sides Colorado and FC Dallas both in action as well as defending champion Monterrey.
