ZAMBIA STUNS IVORY COAST 8-7 IN PENALTIES TO WIN THE AFRICAN CUP OF NATIONS

Nineteen years after a plane crash killed 18 members of their squad off the coast of Gabon's capital, Zambia returned to Libreville and recorded the biggest win in their nation's history. After 120 minutes of scoreless football and 17 penalty kicks, 22 year old Stophira Sunzu slotted home the game winner as Zambia won the African Cup of Nations for the first time. It almost wasn't to be though as the Zambians conceded a penalty midway through the second half. The Ivory Coast turned to their all time leading scorer, Didier Drogba, but the Chelsea striker's attempt was missed badly over the bar. The Ivory Coast, the highest ranked team in the Confederation of African Football has not won the Cup of Nations since 1992.

The United States completed its 5-0 rout of Switzerland in the first round of the Davis Cup today with 19-year-old Ryan Harrison and 6'9" John Isner (can you tell which one he is in the picture?) winning the closing singles matches. It marked the first sweep for the U.S. in Davis Cup play since the first round in 2004 when they defeated Austria by the same 5-0 margin. The U.S. will now advance to the quarterfinals where they'll take on 4th seeded France. France knocked off Canada 4-1 led by Jo-Wilfried Tsonga and Gael Monfils, the #6 and #13 ranked players in the world.

The Detroit Red Wings tied an NHL record with their 20th straight win at home beating the Philadelphia Flyers tonight by a score of 4-3. The league mark was set by the Boston Bruins during the 1929-30 season and matched by the Flyers in 1976-77. Detroit can break the record with a win Tuesday night over the Dallas Stars. Detroit hasn't lost at Joe Louis Arena since early November when they fell to the Flames 4-1. Here's a look back at the streak:
