MLS Recap - Week 7

DC United 1 Montreal 1 - 36 year old Bernardo Corradi gave Montreal a 1-0 lead when he headed in a Lamar Neagle cross midway through the second half, but DC United responded almost immediately with a goal of their own. Second half substitute Maicon Santos buried a low, driven shot from long range to tie the game at 1 and then nearly won it a short while later only to have his second goal of the match overturned on an offsides call. DC United is now unbeaten in 5 straight matches after opening the season with back-to-back losses. Montreal improves to 1-5-2 on the year and gets their first ever point away from home.

Sporting KC 3 Vancouver 1 - Sporting made it 7 in a row to start the season with a 3-1 midweek win over the Whitecaps. Center back Aurélien Collin scored for the second straight game to get things started, and Sporting never looked back capitalizing on an own goal from Martin Bonjour and getting an insurance goal from Kei Kamara to put the match away. Sebastien Le Toux did score his third goal of the year for the Whitecaps as they fought furiously late in the match trying to make it a game again, but Jimmy Nielsen finished with 6 saves as Sporting stayed perfect.

Chicago 3 Toronto 2 - Toronto lost for the sixth straight time this season as the Chicago Fire rallied for a 3-2 win on Saturday. Dominic Oduro scored in the match's opening minute following a defensive miscue by Torsten Frings, but Toronto would battle back thanks to a pair of goals by Reggie Lambe - the first two of his MLS career. Toronto's first lead of the season would be short-lived though as Chicago equalized within a minute when Gonzalo Segares flicked in a free kick from Sebastián Grazzini. Oduro then fed Patrick Nyarko who beat Milos Kocic for the game winner early in the second half. Chicago had several chances to extend their lead in the second half, but Kocic kept his team in the match finishing with 8 saves. Toronto forced Sean Johnson into 6 saves of his own, but couldn't find an equalizer.

Houston 2 Columbus 2 - Eddie Gaven's first two goals of the season helped the Crew overcome a 1-0 second half deficit, but Will Bruin fed captain Brian Ching for the equalizer in the 81st minute. Bruin also scored the Dynamo's opening goal when he headed in a corner kick from Adam Moffat. The Crew had a great chance to win the match in the closing minutes, but Tally Hall denied Olman Vargas twice from point blank range and André Hainault cleared Aaron Schoenfeld's header off the line to preserve the tie.

Los Angeles 2 Colorado 1 - The Galaxy jumped out to a 2-0 lead thanks to a Colorado own goal and Landon Donovan's second goal of the season but they nearly let this one get away from them. Omar Cummings got the Rapids back into the match with a brilliant strike from just beyond the top of the box, but saw his stoppage time penalty that would have tied the game saved by Josh Saunders clinching a 2-1 win for L.A.

Vancouver 1 Dallas 0 - Camilo's 2nd goal of the season was all the scoring Vancouver would need as they defeated Dallas 1-0. Joe Cannon was called upon to make 5 saves as the Whitecaps produced their 5th shutout in 7 games. Dallas played the match without their starting goalie Kevin Hartman who was scratched due to back spasms. 25 year old Chris Seitz started in his place and took the loss.

Philadelphia 1 Chivas USA 0 - The Philadelphia Union earned their second straight win and third straight shutout as they held off Chivas USA despite playing from the 85th minute on with just 9 men. Freddy Adu scored his first goal of the season on a nifty backheel inside the box late in the first half and that was all the offense Philadelphia would need. Things got chippy in the second half as the Union saw both Keon Daniel and Michael Farfan sent off for bad tackles. Philadelphia's coach Peter Nowak was ejected as well in the skirmish that followed Farfan's tackle. It didn't matter though as Zac MacMath made 5 saves and Philadelphia earned its first road win of the year.

Portland 1 Sporting KC 0 - All good things must come to an end. Sporting Kansas City saw their 7-game winning streak to start the season snapped at the hands of the Portland Timbers who entered the match losers of 4 straight. Chance Myers scored the only goal of the match delivering a brilliant header past Jimmy Nielsen for the game's only goal. The only problem is that Myers and Nielsen are teammates. The goal was just the third conceded by Sporting this year. Troy Perkins made two saves for Portland to earn the shutout.

San Jose 3 Real Salt Lake 1 - The Earthquakes scored twice in second half stoppage time against 9-man Real Salt Lake to take over first place in the Western Conference. For a while it seemed like Real would overcome the ejections of Fabian Espindola and Jamison Olave, but Simon Dawkins' first goal of the season in the 92nd minute ensured otherwise. Right back Steven Beitashour had a pair of assists, and Khari Stephenson and Chris Wondolowski each added goals for the first place Quakes. Kyle Beckerman scored his second goal of the year for Real Salt Lake.

DC United 4 New York 1 - The Red Bulls had their four game unbeaten streak snapped in ugly fashion as they lost badly to DC United on Sunday. Chris Pontius scored his first professional hat trick and rookie Nick Deleon scored his third goal of the season as United extended their own unbeaten streak to six games. Thierry Henry had the lone bright spot for the Red Bulls when he scored his 8th goal of the year off a free kick in the second half, but the outcome had already been decided at that point.
