Kings One Win Away

Seeded 8th in the Western Conference, the Los Angeles Kings now find themselves one win away from their first Stanley Cup title in franchise history. The Kings have gone 15-2 in the postseason so far with wins over the Vancouver Canucks, St. Louis Blues and Phoenix Coyotes, and are up 3 games to 0 against the Eastern Conference Champion New Jersey Devils. Let's take a look back at L.A.'s improbable postseason run and how they got to this point:

Western Conference Quarterfinals vs Vancouver, Game 1 - Won 4-2

Dustin Penner scored with 3:14 remaining in the third period to break a 2-2 tie and Dustin Brown added an empty netter in the closing seconds as the Kings stunned the top seeded Canucks 4-2 at home to open the 2012 postseason. Center Mike Richards finished with a goal and two assists and Jonathan Quick made 24 saves as the Kings jumped out to a 1-0 lead.

Dustin Brown's second goal of the game, and third of the series, put the Kings up for good in the second period as the Kings cruised to a 4-2 victory over the Canucks in Game 2. Brown added an assist on Jarret Stoll's third period power play goal and Trevor Lewis added insurance goal with less than 5 minutes to go to put the game out of reach. Jonathan Quick made 46 saves including 22 in the third period giving the Kings a 2-0 lead in the series.

Dustin Brown scored the game's only goal with 13:30 to play and goalie Jonathan Quick made 41 saves as the Kings took a commanding 3-0 lead in the series. The Canucks went 0 for 4 on the power play dropping them to 0 for 14 in the series.

Anze Kopitar gave the Kings a 1-0 lead in the first period, but the Canucks battled back from the brink of elimination behind goals from Alexander Edler, Kevin Bieksa and Henrik Sedin. Daniel Sedin, who had missed the first three games of the series with a concussion, had an assist on brother Henrik's goal in the third period and Cory Schneider made 43 saves to keep the Canucks alive.

Jarret Stoll beat Cory Schneider 4:27 into the first overtime sending the Kings to the Western Conference Semifinals to take on the second seeded St. Louis Blues. The Kings fell behind 1-0 in the first period, but got an equalizer from Brad Richardson in the third sending the game into overtime. Jonathan Quick made 26 more saves and finished the series stopping 95.3% of the shots he faced.

Matt Greene's short handed goal late in the second period broke a 1-1 tie and Dustin Penner added an insurance goal in the closing seconds as the Kings won the opener in St. Louis 3-1. Jonathan Quick made 28 saves as the Kings improved to 4-0 on the road in the 2012 postseason.

The Kings offense erupted for a postseason high 5 goals including 4 in the first period as they jumped out to an early lead that they'd never relinquish in Game 2 against the Blues. Anze Kopitar led the attack with 2 goals and Dustin Brown chipped in 3 assists as L.A. made it 5 in a row away from home to start the postseason. Jonathan Quick made 27 saves as he improved to 6-1 in the 2012 playoffs.

Dwight King's first goal of the 2012 playoffs broke a 1-1 tie in the second period just 40 seconds after the Blues had equalized, and Drew Doughty added a goal and two assists as the Kings went up 3 games to 0 against St. Louis. Justin Williams and Mike Richards added goals and Jonathan Quick only need to make 18 saves as L.A. moved to within a game of the Conference Finals.

Dustin Brown scored two more goals as the Kings swept the second seeded Blues and advanced to the Western Conference Finals. Brown's first goal broke a 1-1 tie late in the first period and Jonathan Quick took care of the rest making 23 saves. Anze Kopitar added a pair of assists and rookie Jordan Nolan scored his first career postseason goal as the Kings won their fifth straight.

Dustin Brown's 7th goal of the postseason broke a 2-2 tie early in the third period, and Dwight King's second goal of the game in the final minute ensured a victory for the Kings in their opener against Phoenix. Anze Kopitar added his 4th goal of the postseason and Jonathan Quick made 25 saves as the Kings won their sixth in a row and improved to 6-0 on the road in the postseason.

Jeff Carter recorded a hat trick and Jonathan Quick made 24 saves for his second shutout of the postseason as the Kings won their 7th straight road game and took a 2-0 lead in the Western Conference Finals. Dwight King opened the scoring for the Kings a little over halfway through the first period, and Jeff Carter and Jonathan Quick took care of the rest as the Kings improved to 10-1 in the postseason and have reeled off 7 wins in a row.

After falling behind 1-0 early in the second period, Anze Kopitar scored the equalizer and Dwight King struck for the game winner as the Kings won the 8th straight and took a command 3-0 lead in the Western Conference Finals. Jonathan Quick made 26 saves as the Kings moved to within one win from just their second trip to the Stanley Cup Finals.

Western Conference Finals vs Phoenix, Game 4 - Lost 2-0

L.A. failed to clinch a trip to the Stanley Cup Finals on their first attempt as they fell short against the Coyotes in Game 4 by a score of 2-0. Shane Doan scored both goals and Mike Smith made 36 saves for Phoenix who dealt the Kings just their second loss of the postseason in 13 games. Jonathan Quick made 19 saves for L.A. in a losing effort.

Dustin Penner's third goal of the postseason sends the Kings through to the Stanley Cup Finals. Penner beat Mike Smith late in the first overtime to give the Kings a 4-3 win and clinch the Western Conference Title. Anze Kopitar got the Kings on the board with their fifth shorthanded goal of the postseason and Drew Doughty and Mike Richards added goals for L.A who advanced to the Finals for the first time since Wayne Gretzky got them there in 1993. Jonathan Quick made 38 saves in the win.

Stanley Cup Finals vs New Jersey, Game 1 - Won 2-1, OT

Anze Kopitar's seventh goal of the postseason game the Kings their third overtime win of the playoffs and an early 1-0 lead in the Stanley Cup Finals. Kopitar faked out Martin Brodeur about halfway through the first overtime sending the Kings to their first Stanley Cup Finals win in almost 20 years. Fourth line center Colin Fraser, who scored just 2 goals in 67 games for the Kings during the regular season, also scored for L.A. and Jonathan Quick made 16 saves in getting his 13th win of the postseason.

Jeff Carter's game winner in overtime made it 10 straight road wins for the Kings as they edged out the Devils 2-1 for the second straight game. Drew Doughty also scored for the Kings who blew a 1-0 lead, but held the Devils off in the end behind 32 saves from Jonathan Quick.

Stanley Cup Finals vs New Jersey, Game 3 - Won 4-0

The Kings are one win away from their first ever Stanley Cup Title. Jonathan Quick made 22 saves for his third shutout of the postseason and the Kings got goals from Alec Martinez, Anze Kopitar, Jeff Carter and Justin Williams as they improved to 15-2 in the playoffs and now get three chances to bring a hockey championship to Southern California.
