Despite a 1-0 loss to Japan at the Algarve Cup, the U.S. Women's Soccer Team hung on to the top spot in the latest FIFA rankings released today. Germany, the Algarve Cup Winners, stayed at number two but closed the gap between them and the U.S. to just three points. Japan meanwhile held steady at number three with Brazil, Sweden, France, Canada, North Korea, England and Australia rounding out the Top 10. Scotland (21), Costa Rica (40) Wales (45), Papua New Guinea (49) and Cameroon (52) all moved into their highest-ever positions in the FIFA rankings this month. Here's a look at the Top 20.

The next set of FIFA rankings comes out June 1st. The U.S. currently has two matches scheduled between now and then as they are set to travel to Japan at the end of the month where they will face the 3rd ranked Japanese (4/1) and number 4 Brazil (4/3).

New FIFA Rankings Released

Another big shakeup atop this month's FIFA rankings with #1 Spain and #4 Uruguay the only nations in the top ten that didn't see their rankings change from last month. Germany and the Netherlands flip-flopped at two and three once again with the Dutch moving up following their 3-2 win over England and the Germans dropping after they were defeated by France 2-1. Brazil jumps up 2 spots and rejoins the Top 5 while England, Portugal, Argentina, Italy and Croatia round out the Top 10.

São Tomé and Príncipe made the biggest jump this month moving up 53 spots all the way to number 115. The small island nation in the Gulf of Guinea defeated Sierra Leone in 2013 African Cup of Nations qualifying in their only match of the month. This is the highest they've ever been ranked in one of FIFA's rankings.

Elsewhere Ivory Coast holds steady at number 15 to lead the African nations and Australia moves up two spots to number 20 to lead the Asian Football Confederation. New Zealand continues its stranglehold on the Oceania Football Confederation despite coming in at number 119. And finally, while the U.S. moved up 4 more spots all the way to number 27 following their upset win over Italy, Mexico still leads the CONCACAF nations at number 22.

Here's a look at the Top 20:
