Asian Cup Finals Set

Ok, so this probably isn't on a lot of people's radar, but being an avid soccer fan I figure I should at least mention it. This morning Australia and Japan won their semifinal matches and they will play Saturday for the Asian Cup Title. Australia blew out Uzbekistan 6-0 getting goals from six different players: Harry Kewell, Sasa Ognenovski, David Carney, Brett Emerton, Carl Valeri and Robbie Kruse. Australia was playing in its first semifinal match and now they will try for their first championship. They'll be opposed by Japan who defeated South Korea 3-0 on penalty kicks are tying 2-2. South Korea struck first in the 23rd on a penalty kick by Ki Sung-yueng, but Japan tied it up at 1 on a goal by Ryoichi Maeda. After 90 minutes the score remained tied at 1 and so the teams went to extra time. Japan struck first in the overtime period when Hajime Hosogai scored off a rebound. South Korea would battle back though and force penalty kicks on a goal by Hwang Jae-won with less than a minute remaining. However that's where South Korea's luck would end. All three of their penalty kick shooters would miss and Japan clinched on a goal by Yasuyuki Konno. Japan now has a shot to win their 4th Asian Cup. They last won the tournament in 2004.
