Bryce Harper Likely Done For Year

Not all news for the Nationals was good today. Bryce Harper, the 18 year old phenom who was the first overall pick in the 2010 Draft, injured his hamstring yesterday while running from first to third for AA Harrisburg. He was helped off the field and was added to the 7-Day Disabled List today. It is believed that he'll probably be shut down for the year to prevent the risk of further injury as there are only 18 games left in the AA season (plus playoffs). The Nationals don't want to do anything to ruin Harper's bright future.

The #1 prospect in the Nationals system hit .297 between Class A Hagerstown and Class AA Harrisburg with 17 home runs, 58 runs batted in and 26 stolen bases in 109 games this season. He was a South Atlantic League midseason All Star hitting .318 with 14 of those home runs and a .423 on base percentage for the Suns earning himself a promotion to AA. He played for the U.S. in the Minor League Futures game and while he struggled in AA when he was first brought up, he'd been heating up lately and he's produced some memorable moments including a mammoth walkoff home run against Trenton last week. Depending on how Harper recovers from the injury, there's a chance that he'll be back to play in the Arizona Fall League during the offseason. Either way you can expect to see him in a Nationals uniform before too long.

Unfortunately, he won't be helping the Flying Cave Donkies (my fantasy baseball squad) this season which means we'll have to try and repeat as Lushbucket Baseball League Champions without him.
