Keane will immediately join a team in contention as the Galaxy currently lead the MLS Western Conference with 48 points through 25 matches. However, L.A. has struggled to get production out of their strikers as offseason acquisitions Chad Barrett and Juan Pablo Angel have both fallen short of expectations. Barrett had 7 goals in 23 games with Toronto FC in 2010, but has managed just 4 goals in 20 games since joining the Galaxy, and the Colombian native Angel, who scored 58 goals over the past four seasons with the Red Bulls, has managed just 3 goals and an assist in 22 games this year for L.A. The Galaxy's talented midfield has been able to compensate for the lack of production from their strikers, but L.A. hasn't won an MLS Cup since 2005 and with players like Landon Donovan and David Beckham, the pressure is building. Bringing in a Robbie Keane could be just the move they need to push them to the next level.
The Galaxy will likely be moving on without Angel as a result of the Keane signing as this move will put them over their designated player limit. Speculation is that once Keane obtains his visa, Angel will be join Chivas USA as the Goats look to grab one of the final playoff spots. The Galaxy open up CONCACAF Champions League play tomorrow against CD Motagua of Honduras and they'll host San Jose in a league match on Saturday night. It remains to be scene when Keane is expected to be in uniform.
