Walkoff Slam For Zimmerman Propels Nats

3 balls, 2 strikes, 2 outs, bottom of the 9th, bases loaded, tie game... It's one of those moments that every kid dreams about. Tonight Ryan Zimmerman got to live that dream for the Washington Nationals. Facing off against Phillies closer Ryan Madson in a 4-4 tie, Zimmerman crushed a 3-2 fastball into the left field bleachers to give the Nationals an 8-4 walkoff win. It marked the 8th time in Zimmerman's seven year Major League career that he's ended a game with a home run.

The Phillies seemed to have the game in hand heading into the bottom of the 9th with closer Ryan Madson coming on with a 4-2 lead to close the game out. Madson entered the game with a 2.06 ERA and 23 saves in 24 attempts, but tonight just wasn't his night. Jonny Gomes and Ian Desmond delivered run scoring singles to tie the game and that set the stage for Zimmerman. For the game Madson allowed 6 earned runs in the 9th inning on 5 hits and a walk.
