Fantasy Football - Week 1 in Review

Nothing more satisfying on a Tuesday morning then checking the fantasy football scoreboard and realizing that you got yourself a win. Got a bit of a gift this weekend thanks to the Jets defense in the 4th quarter (sack/fumble recovery, blocked punt/touchdown, interception), 9 receptions and a 4th quarter touchdown from Reggie Bush on Monday night, and my opponent opting to start injured Saints kicker Garrett Hartley (0 points). Final score 146-142, and "Corn on the Kolb" is off to a 1-0 start despite losing fantasy gold mine Danny Amendola to a dislocated elbow. Ouch.

But enough about my guys. Let's take a look at who the top performers were at each position in Week 1:

QB - 4 quarterbacks threw for over 400 yards in week 1, but it was Tom Brady who bested them all with an absurd 517 yards and 4 touchdown in a win over the Dolphins. Drydock League Fantasy Points: 35

WR - You always hear about how important size is for wide receivers. Well, your top two producers from Week 1 both measure in at 5'9". In cleats. Wes Welker was the primary beneficiary of Tom Brady's wild night finishing with 160 yards and a pair of touchdowns and Steve Smith helped out a record-setting Cam Newton with 178 yards and a pair of scores in a losing effort for Carolina. RB - Coastal Carolina alum Mike Tolbert got into the end zone three times for San Diego this weekend in their win over the Vikings, once via the run, and twice via the pass. Tolbert finished with 9 receptions for 58 yards and also amassed 35 yards on the ground. Drydock League Fantasy Points: 31

TE - Another recipient of Brady's big night, Aaron Hernandez reeled in 7 passes for 103 yards and a score against the Dolphins last night. Drydock League Fantasy Points: 21

K - 49er David Akers nailed 4 field goals and 3 extra points for his new team en route to a 33-17 win over the Seahawks. Drydock League Fantasy Points: 15

DEF - The Ravens forced the Steelers into 7 turnovers in Week 1, but it was the Chicago Bears who produced the highest fantasy point total. Brian Urlacher and Company forced 3 turnovers, scored a touchdown, and recorded 5 sacks while not allowing a touchdown (The Falcons defense did get in the end zone on an interception return). IDP - Brian Urlacher had an interception and returned a recovered fumble for a touchdown as the Bears pulled off a big upset (in my mind at least) over the Falcons. Drydock League Fantasy Points: 19
