Women's World Cup Update - Group C Wrapup

SWEDEN 2 UNITED STATES 1

Sweden clinched first place in Group C with a 2-1 win over the United States today. It marked the second time this year that Sweden has defeated the U.S. by identical 2-1 margins. It was a rough day for Amy LePeilbet today as she was charged with a foul in the box on Lotta Schelin resulting in a penalty kick goal for Lisa Dahlkvist. LePeilbet was then victimized again when Nilla Fischer's free kick deflected off of her and past a helpless Hope Solo to make it 2-0 just 35 minutes into the match. Abby Wambach's 119th career goal cut the deficit in half, but despite outshooting the Swedes 20-9, the U.S. was unable to find an equalizer and were forced to settle for second place in Group C setting up a quarterfinals match with Brazil. Sweden meanwhile will take on Australia in their quarterfinal match.

NORTH KOREA 0 COLOMBIA 0

Colombia earned their first ever World Cup point with a scoreless draw against the North Koreans. Neither side managed a goal in the 2011 World Cup, but thanks to the draw, both sides left with a point. While Colombia can look to build on their first World Cup appearance, North Korea failed to win a game at the World Cup for the first time in 4 trips.
