Copa America Update

COSTA RICA 2 BOLIVIA 0

If things didn't already look bad for Argentina, they suddenly got even worse. Costa Rica's win drops Argentina into third place in Group A behind both Colombia and Costa Rica so now the Argentinians will likely need a win to advance. The young Costa Rican team knocked off Bolivia 2-0 today getting goals from 21 year old Josué Martínez and 19 year old Joel Campbell. It was the second goal for each player for Costa Rica. Martinez opened the scoring in the 59th minute driving home a rebound after a save by Bolivian goalie Carlos Erwin Arias who plays professionally in Israel for Maccabi Netanya. The things started to get ugly for the Bolivians. First, defender Ronald Rivero was sent off in the 70th minute for a handball on the goal line. However Arias would deny Allen Guevara on the ensuing penalty kick and then stuffing him again from point blank range on the rebound. Any momentum Bolivia gained from this was quickly lost though when midfielder Walter Flores was sent off as well dropping Bolivia down to 9 men. Costa Rica's young squad quickly capitalized with Campbell's goal in the 79th minute as the Costa Ricans moved into 2nd place in Group A. Costa Rica will now take on Argentina on Monday while Bolivia will take on group leaders Colombia on Sunday. Tomorrow's there's a pair of Group C games with Uruguay playing Chile and Peru taking on Mexico.
