Copa America Semifinals - Uruguay vs Peru

URUGUAY 2 PERU 0

Uruguay got the best of their rematch with Peru tonight thanks to a pair of second half goals from Luis Suarez. The 24 year old Liverpool striker has now scored 3 goals in the tournament, all of them coming against Peru. After a scoreless first half, Diego Forlan did as he's done so often lately for Uruguay, he made something happen. Forlan's long range shot was saved by Peru goalie Raul Fernandez, but the rebound fell to Suarez who converted easily to make it 1-0. Five minutes later Suarez got another opportunity as he got in behind the defense and dribbled around a charging Fernandez for the easy tap-in to make it 2-0. Any hopes Peru had of coming back ended abruptly in the 68th minute when Peru's captain Juan Manuel Vargas was sent off forcing them to go the rest of the way a man down. Peru, who was appearing in their first semifinal since 1997, will now play for Third Place against the loser of tomorrow's match between Paraguay and Venezuela. That Consolation Game will be played on Saturday while Uruguay will take on the winner on Sunday as they try for a record 15th Copa America Championship.
