URUGUAY 1 MEXICO 0
Álvaro Pereira scored off a rebound from a Diego Forlan long range strike in the 14th minute and that would be all she wrote scoring-wise in this one. Mexico's Rafael Marquez, not to be confused with Rafa Marquez who played in the Gold Cup for Mexico and stars for the New York Red Bulls in MLS, actually put one in late in the match, but he was ruled to be offsides giving Uruguay the win. Uruguay has not looked like the team that drove all the way to the World Cup semifinals last summer when Forlan scored 5 goals and won the Golden Ball as the World Cup's best player. Forlan has been shut out through 3 games in the tournament and hasn't scored his goal against Germany in the consolation game last summer, a span of 10 matches. Uruguay must now take on Argentina in the quarterfinals.
CHILE 1 PERU 0
Chile got an own goal when a corner kick deflected in off the knee of Peruvian defender André Carrillo two minutes into stoppage time as Chile clinched Group C with their second win of the tournament. Peru, who entered play with 4 points still advances to the quarterfinals by virtue of being the best third place team in the three groups. Both teams were forced to play down a man for 30 minutes or so when Chile's Jean Beausejour and Peru's Giancarlo Carmona were sent off for an altercation.
