Copa America Update - Group A Wrapup

No need to cry for me, Argentina. No need for me to cry for you either. With their future in the tournament in jeopardy, Argentina finally put together a winning performance and blew out the Costa Ricans 3-0 in the Group A finale. Colombia and the Argentinians are now assured a spot in the quarterfinals while Costa Rica will in all likelihood head home. There is a scenario that will get them into the next round however it involves Brazil losing to Ecuador AND Paraguay losing to Venezuela.

ARGENTINA 3 COSTA RICA 0

Sergio Agüero scored a pair of goals as the Argentinians made sure they would live to fight another day. The 23 year old striker for Atlético Madrid opened the scoring just before halftime when Fernando Gago's long range strike deflected off goalkeeper Leonel Moreira and right to him for the easy finish. Then in the second half the much-criticized Lionel Messi played a beautiful through ball in the Agüero who beat Moreira to the back post. Agüero now has 3 goals in the tournament having also scored in their draw against Bolivia. Messi was the facilitator once again for the final goal as another pinpoint pass found Ángel Di María and the 23 year old Real Madrid midfielder made it 3-0. It could have been a lot worse too as Argentina outshot the Costa Ricans 18-5 forcing Moreira to make 5 saves.
