Shiver me Timbers!!!

Don't look now, but the Pittsburgh Pirates are in first place. The Pirates haven't had a winning season since winning the NL East back in 1992 in the days of Barry Bonds, Andy Van Slyke, Jay Bell, Doug Drabek and Jim Leyland.

Now they're led by the likes of Jeff Karstens, Kevin Correia, Joel Hanrahan, Andrew McCutchen and Neil Walker. It's quite a turnaround for a team that finished the 2010 season with a record of 57-105, coming in last in the NL Central for the 4th straight season. Can these guys hang in the Central against the Cardinals, Brewers and Reds down the stretch? Either way, they have a real shot of snapping their 18 year streak of losing seasons which will definitely make my buddy Cumbo happy. I don't feel too bad for him though since he has the Steelers to root for as well. Note the 30-63 Astros down there at the bottom of the division. They need to go 33-36 the rest of the way to avoid their first 100 loss season in franchise history. It's not looking good...
