CONCACAF GOLD CUP - Day 2

Group B

Jamaica 4 Grenada 0

Jamaica got a pair of goals on each side of the intermission as they cruised to an easy 4-0 win over Grenada in their Group B opener last night. L.A. Galaxy goalie Donovan Ricketts picked up the shutout in goal for the Jamaicans and San Jose forward Ryan Johnson scored his 4th international goal as the Jamaicans were well represented by MLS. Shavar Thomas (Sporting Kansas City), Jermaine Taylor (Houston), Dane Richards (New York), Ricketts and Johnson all started for the Reggae Boyz while Je-Vaughn Watson (Houston) came on as a second half substitute. Tyron Marshall (Colorado) and Omar Cummings (Colorado) are both also on the Jamaican roster but they did not appear. Luton Shelton, Demar Phillips and Keammar Daley also scored for Jamaica who now stand alone atop Group B. Sporting Kansas City's Craig Rocastle started and played the first half for Grenada.

Honduras 0 Guatemala 0

Guatemala finished with only 9 players, but was able to bear down defensively and force a 0-0 draw with  rival Honduras. Defenders Gustavo Cabrera and Henry Medina were both sent off during the second half of a physical game between the two Central American nations. Honduras defeated Guatemala 3-1 earlier this year in the Copa Centroamericana behind a pair of goals from Jorge Claros, but there would be no scoring this time around. Guatemala started a pair of MLS players in Marco Pappa (Chicago) and Carlos Ruiz (Philadelphia) while Honduras's lone MLS representative Roger Espinoza (Sporting Kansas City) did not play.
