Panama 2 United States 1
It was like the World Cup all over again for the United States, only this time they couldn't recover from the hole they dug themselves into during the first half. Panama jumped out to an early 1-0 lead when Luis Tejada followed up a rebound off a header from defender Eduardo Dasent to beat Tim Howard in the 19th minute. Things got worse from their as Tim Ream took down Blas Perez on the outskirts of the penalty box setting up a PK that Gabriel Gomez coverted to put Panama up 2. The U.S. fought back getting a goal in the second half from Clarence Goodson whose diving header off a flick from Michael Bradley cut the deficit in half, but the U.S. couldn't find an equalizer and lost for the first time ever in the Group Stages of the tournament. The United States outshot Panama 15-9, but their lackadaisical start couldn't be overcome. With the win Panama takes control of Group C needing just a point against Canada to clinch the top spot.
Canada 1 Guadeloupe 0
Jean Luce Lambourde was sent off in the game's 2nd minute forcing Guadeloupe to play a man down for the second straight game and the Canadians capitalized. New York Red Bulls midfielder Dwayne De Rosario converted a penalty kick in the 50th minute for his 16th career International Goal and that was all Canada would need as keeper Milan Borjan made 4 saves to complete the shutout for the Red and White. Borjan, who was born in Yugoslavia and plays professionally in Serbia for FK Rad is in his first full year as a member of the Canadian national team.

Group A
El Salvador 6 Cuba 1
El Salvador got a brace from 22 year old Rodolfo Zelaya and single goals from William Romero, Mark Blanco, Jose Alvarez Hernandez and Eliseo Quintanilla as they had their biggest offensive outburst of the tournament in routing Cuba 6-1. Cuba got an 82nd minute goal from Yenier Marquez, their first goal of the tournament, but it was too little too late for the Cubans who lost every game they played and were outscored 16-1 in the tournament.
Mexico 4 Costa Rica 1
Mexico continued their dominance in the tournament scoring at least 4 goals for the 3rd straight game. Mexico jumped out to a 4-0 lead in the first 38 minutes and coasted from there finishing the first round by outscoring their opponents 14-1. After scoring 5 goals in the tournament's first two games, 23 year old sensation Chicharito was finally held scoreless but it didn't matter. New York Red Bulls defender Rafa Marquez opened the scoring with his 12th career international goal, Deportivo La Coruña left midfielder Andres Guardado followed that up with a pair of goals, and West Ham winger Pablo Barrera closed out the scoring for Mexico scoring for the 3rd time in the past 2 Gold Cups. Marcos Urena got Costa Rica on the board for this 3rd goal of the tournament midway through the second half, but Los Ticos couldn't muster anything else as they were forced to settle for second place in Group A.

Group B
Guatemala 4 Grenada 0
MLSers Marco Pappa (Chicago Fire) and Carlos Ruiz (Philadelphia) both scored as Guatemala cruised to a 4-0 win over Grenada. Pappa, who's in the midst of his 4th season with the Fire, scored his third career goal for Guatemala while Ruiz, Guatemala's all-time scoring leader, scored for Guatemala for the 43rd time. Jose Del Aguila and Carlos Gallardo both added goals for the Guatemalans who earned the first win of the Gold Cup. Grenada meanwhile finishes the tournament 0-3 getting outscored 15-1 finishing 11th overall in the tournament.
Jamaica 1 Honduras 0
Jamaica picked up their 3rd consecutive shutout, this time with 23 year old Dwayne Miller in goal, as they finished 3-0 in Group B play. Jamaica was the beneficiary of an own goal scored by Honduran keeper Noel Vallardes and despite getting outshot 13-10, they came away with the 1-0 win. Honduras meanwhile takes second place in the Group B finishing ahead of the Guatemalans on goal differential.

Group C
Panama 1 Canada 1
New York's Dwayne De Rosario converted his second penalty kick goal of the tournament in the 61st minute as Canada looked poised to knock off the Panamanians, but Luis Tejada, the Matador, scored in the 90th minute to force a tie and clinch 1st place in Group C. Tejada's goal was his third of the tournament and 26th for Panama. The 29 year old who plays professionally in Peru for Juan Aurich is tied with Costa Rica's Marcos Urena, El Salvador's Rodolfo Zelaya, Jamaica's Demar Phillips and Honduras's Carlos Costly for second in scoring in the Gold Cup.
United States 1 Guadeloupe 0
The U.S. made a couple lineup changes following their 2-1 loss to Panama bringing Eric Lichaj into the backfield for Tim Ream while pushing Carlos Bocanegra into the middle, and then starting Chris Wondolowski up front in place of Juan Agudelo. The results were positive in that the U.S. came away victorious, but they missed a number of good chances and were forced to settle for the one goal victory. Jozy Altidore scored on an absolute laser from 30 yards out for his second goal of the tournament, but that was all the U.S. would muster despite 19 shots, 10 of them on goal. Guadeloupe keeper Franck Grandel, named the best keeper of the 2007 Gold Cup, ended the match with 9 saves.
