Tom Brady Really Wants You to Buy His Boots

*Let's start with a big collective WOW in reaction to what Tom Brady just did to the Miami defense. In case you lost track, the man from Michigan finished with a franchise record 527 yards and 4 touchdowns as New England beat Miami 38-24 tonight. To give you an idea of just how ridiculous that is, consider the following:

-Chad Henne, the Miami quarterback, threw for "only" 416 yards eclipsing his previous career high of 363 set last year against the Jets.

-In TWO GAMES against Miami last year, Brady passed for just 352 yards total.

-Brady did not eclipse 200 passing yards in his last three regular season games.

-Only ten quarterbacks eclipsed 400 yards in a game all of last season (Peyton Manning, Matt Schaub, Donovan McNabb - the same guy who passed for 39 yards yesterday, Kyle Orton, Philip Rivers - who did it twice, Tony Romo, Carson Palmer, Brett Favre, Matt Cassel, and Aaron Rodgers). Note that Tom Brady, Drew Brees, Michael Vick, Ben Roethlisberger, Matt Ryan and a number of others are not on this list. This is not an easy thing to do.

So Henne goes out and passes for over 400 yards and Brady outgains him by OVER ONE HUNDRED YARDS. Are you kidding me? The exclamation point came after the Pats defense stopped the Fins inside their own one yard line on 4th down and Brady came out on the next play and fired a 99 yard touchdown pass to Wes Welker. The AFC is officially on notice: The Patriots are back.

*What's equally remarkable about Brady's performance tonight is that he did it without really involving Chad Ochocinco in the offense at all. He had just one catch for fourteen yards while tight ends Rob Gronkowski and Aaron Hernandez combined for 13 catches for 189 yards and two touchdowns.

*Only four quarterbacks in NFL history have passed for more yards in a game than Brady did tonight.

-Norm Van Brocklin has had the record for passing yards in a game for almost 60 years. While quarterbacking the Los Angeles Rams in 1951, Van Brocklin completed 27 of 41 passes for 554 yards and 5 touchdowns in a 54-14 route of the New York Yanks.

-Warren Moon threw for 527 yards in 1990 for the run and shoot Oilers against the Kansas City Chiefs, and despite not throwing a pick, produced just 27 points. The Oilers did manage to win the game though 27-10.

-Boomer Esiason threw for 522 yards for the Arizona Cardinals in 1996, but was picked off 4 times and needed overtime to beat Washington 37-34. What's crazy is that Esiason didn't have a receiver with over 100 yards in the game.

-Dan Marino threw for 521 yards in a 1988 game against the Jets, but they lost the game 44-30 and Marino was picked off 5 times.

*In summary, Tom Brady is ridiculous. Buy his boots.

  1. Absolutely awesome, might help me forget about the Red Sox implosion in process...but something is wrong when ESPN's new Total QB rating has Fitzpatrick's game rated higher than Brady's.

  2. I'm still trying to figure out how Donovan McNabb can throw for 39 yards and not finish last.
