Tournament Update

More Results from Today's Games:

MEAC - Hampton (24-8) knocked off Morgan St. 60-55 to win the MEAC tournament. It's the 4th time they'll be entering the tournament and first since 2006. They did however pull off a memorable upset as a 15 seed in 2001 knocking off Jamaal Tinsley's Iowa St. team 58-57.

Big 12 - #2 Kansas (32-2) avenged an earlier loss to Texas and cruised to a 12 point win over 10th ranked Texas 85-73. Texas has now been to the Big 12 Championship game 6 times, but never won it. Kansas has won 8 times in 9 tries.

Mountain West - 6th ranked San Diego State (32-2) avenged their only two losses of the season by finally beating BYU 72-54 in the Mountain West Championship game. Jimmer Fredette scored 30 points in a losing effort. Fredette is averaging 28.5 points on the season now and is just 60 points shy of 1000 on the year.

Big East - #19 Connecticut (26-9) knocked off #14 Louisville 69-66, their 5th win in the last 5 days to win the Big East Tournament for the 7th time. DePaul, #22 Georgetown, #3 Pittsburgh, #11 Syracuse and finally Louisville all fell at the hands of the Huskies. Kemba Walker averaged 26 points a game in the tournament.

Pac 10 - Washington (23-10) upset 15th ranked Arizona 77-75 in overtime overcoming a 4 point deficit in the final minute and getting a buzzer beater from Isaiah Thomas right after Arizona had tied the game with a 3-pointer. The Huskies advance and successfully defend their Pac-10 Title.

WAC - 17th ranked Utah State (30-3) defeated Boise State 77-69 to win the WAC and helped a lot of teams on the bubble sleep a little easier knowing that one of their spots won't be going to the Broncos. This will be the second straight trip to the NCAAs for the Aggies.

Ivy - After tying for the regular season title the Ivy League, who doesn't have a conference tournament, was forced to have a one game playoff to decide their automatic berth. In the end, it was Princeton (25-6) got a leaning jump shot from Douglas Davis at the buzzer to break a lot of hearts in Cambridge today. Harvard, who hasn't made an NCAA tournament since 1946 will have to sweat it out tomorrow to see if they're in or will have to wait a little bit longer. Princeton's bid was its first in 7 years.

Southland - Texas-San Antonio (UTSA) (19-13) defeated McNeese St. for the second time in as many tries this year 75-72. It's the 4th NCAA berth for the Roadrunners and first since 2004.

MAC - It took overtime, but Akron (23-12) held off Kent St 66-65 to win the MAC title. It's the 5th straight MAC Championship game the Zips have played in, and marked the 2nd time they've won the tournament.

Big West - The UC-Santa Barbara Gauchos (18-13) knocked off the Long Beach St. 49ers 64-56 to advance to the NCAA tournament for the second consecutive season. It marked the first time in school history that UCSB has received tournament berths in consecutive years.

SWAC - Alabama St. (17-17) is going to be one of the more shocking stories in the tournament this year after defeating Grambling St. today 65-48. The Hornets started the year 6-16 before winning 11 of their last 12 to go to the NCAA tourney for the 2nd time in 3 years. Funny story about Alabama St. We were filling out brackets at work 2 years ago and one of my guys picked them (as a 16 seed) to beat whatever #1 they were playing against. He thought Alabama St. and Alabama were the same place and didn't fully understand the concept of tournament seedings. DON'T MAKE THAT MISTAKE!! Needless to say, his bracket did not win. Although I think he actually may have finished in 2nd.
