Justin Verlander became the second pitcher in the AL Central to throw a no-hitter in 5 days beating the Toronto Blue Jays 9-0 on Saturday. Verlander allowed just an 8th inning walk to catcher J.P. Arencibia en route to his 3rd win of the season. Ball 4 came on the 12th pitch of the at bat missing outside by just a hair as Verlander narrowly missed staying perfect. Arencibia was quickly erased though as Edwin Encarnacion hit into a 6-4-3 double play to end the inning. It was the second no hitter of the 28 year old Verlander's career who finished the game with 4 strikeouts. Verlander previously no-hit the Milwaukee Brewers back in 2007. Verlander struck out 12 in that game, but walked 4. Depite the lower walk/strikeout totals this time around, he threw only 4 fewer pitches than in his first no-hitter (108 vs 112). Both performances were equally dominant as he threw approximately twice as many strikes as balls in both games. Rajai Davis struck out swinging to end the game making Verlander the 30th pitcher in major league history to throw multiple no-hitters.
