U.S. Women Beat Japan 2-0 in World Cup Tuneup

The U.S. defeated Japan yesterday 2-0 in their third-to-last match before heading to Germany for the 2011 World Cup. Abby Wambach scored her 118th international goal, and first since November, and added an assist, and Hope Solo recorded her 51st career shutout in the win over the 4th ranked Japanese. Amy Rodriguez added the insurance goal as the U.S. improved to 7-2-0 in 2011.  It was her 3rd goal of 2011 tying her for second on the team with Alex Morgan. Carli Lloyd still leads all U.S. scorers for 5 goals this year. All news was not good coming out of the U.S. camp though as midfielder Lindsay Tarpley tore her ACL in the second half and will be out for 6 to 8 months. U.S. coach Pia Sundhage will announce Tarpley's replacement in the next few days. Final rosters aren't due until 10 working days before the start of the tournament on June 26. The Americans have two more tuneup games before going overseas. They take on Japan again on Wednesday in North Carolina and then June 5th against Mexico at Red Bull Arena in New Jersey.
