NHL Playoff Update

Monday Games

Philadelphia 4 Buffalo 2 - Philadelphia leads series 2-1.

Goals:

BUF- Drew Stafford (1), Nathan Gerbe (1)
PHI - Jeff Carter (1), Danny Briere (2), Nikolay Zherdev (1), Kimmo Timonen (1)

Notes:

Brian Boucher stopped 35 of 37 shots to get his second win of the series in his first start... Carter's goal was his 13th in 44 career postseason games... Briere, a former Sabre who was on the 2006 Buffalo squad that eliminated the Flyers from the postseason, scored his 37th career playoff goal. He has 89 points in 89 career playoff games... Game 4 is set for Wednesday night as Buffalo tries to even up the series.
 


Boston 4 Montreal 2 - Montreal leads series 2-1

Goals:

MON- Andrei Kostitsyn (1), Tomas Plekanec (1)
BOS- David Krejci (1), Nathan Horton (1), Rich Peverley (1), Chris Kelly (1)

Notes:

The visiting team has won all 3 games in this series... Zdeno Chara was back in the lineup for Boston. It was his first visit to Montreal since the game he sent Max Pacioretty to the hospital... Montreal outshot Boston 36-25, but Tim Thomas was up to the task making 34 saves. Thomas has saved 75 shots through three games. The win was the 11th of his postseason career... Game 4 is Thursday night in Montreal.



Pittsburgh 3 Tampa Bay 2 - Pittsburgh leads series 2-1.


Goals:

PIT- Maxime Talbot (1), Arron Asham (2), Tyler Kennedy (1)

TB- Martin St. Louis 2 (3)


Notes:

Marc-Andre Fleury earned his 40th post season win. He has saved 73 of 79 shots in the series... Martin St. Louis now has 26 career playoff goals in 48 games. He scored a career best 9 goals and had 15 assists during the 2004 playoffs... Arron Asham scored just 5 goals in 44 regular season games but already has 2 in 3 playoff games. Asham scored 4 goals in 23 playoff games in 2010 for the Flyers... Game 4 is Wednesday night in Tampa Bay.



Detroit 4 Phoenix 2 - Detroit leads series 3-0

Goals:

DET- Ruslan Salei (1), Drew Miller (1), Valtteri Filppula (1), Johan Franzen (2)
PHO- David Schlemko (1), Ray Whitney (1)

Notes:

Both Phoenix goals came on power plays... Jimmy Howard has stopped 84 of 91 shots through three games for the Red Wings... 38 year old Ray Whitney played in just his 86 playoff game in 18 years. His goal was his 19th in the postseason. Whitney scored 9 goals for the Hurricanes in the 2006 playoffs... Henrik Zetterberg missed his third straight game... The Red Wings go for the sweep on Wednesday night in Phoenix.



Tuesday Games



Chicago 7 Vancouver 2 - Vancouver leads series 3-1

Goals:

VAN- Sami Salo (1), Daniel Sedin (4)
CHI- Bryan Bickell (1), Brian Campbell (1), Duncan Keith (2), Dave Bolland (1), Michael Frolik (1), Patrick Sharp 2 (3)

Notes:

Chicago scored more goals in Game 4 (7) than they did in Games 1-3 (5)... Patrick Sharp scored 11 goals in Chicago's Stanley Cup run last year... Dave Bolland, who hadn't played since March 9th due to a concussion had a goal and three assists. Bolland had 3 assists in a game just once the whole season on February 16th against Minnesota... Roberto Luongo was pulled after allowing 6 goals on 28 shots in 44:03... Game 5 goes back to Vancouver where the Blackhawks still face elimination on Thursday night.



San Jose 6 Los Angeles 5 - San Jose leads series 2-1.

Goals:

SAN- Patrick Marleau (1), Ryane Clowe 2 (2), Logan Couture (2), Joe Pavelski (2), Devin Setoguchi (1)
LOS-Willie Mitchell (1), Kyle Clifford (2), Michal Handzus (1), Brad Richardson (1), Ryan Smyth (1)

Notes:

Both of the Sharks' wins in this series came in overtime... San Jose scored 5 goals in the second period to erase an early 4-0 Kings lead... Setoguchi's goal was his 8th career postseason goal in 33 games... San Jose outshot the Kings 36-22... Ryane Clowe had 24 goals and 38 assists for the Sharks during the regular season... Game 4 is Thursday night in Los Angeles.
