Three games last night and we now have 3 of the 4 Eastern Conference series at 2-0. Tonight is all Western Conference action, as the Thunder, Grizzlies and Hornets all look to build on Game 1 wins.
Boston 96 New York 93
Carmelo Anthony had just a monster game with 42 points, 17 rebounds and 6 assists, but New York couldn't overcome the absence of Chauncey Billups (knee) and the loss of Amare Stoudemire (back spasms) and they fell into a 2-0 hole. Kevin Garnett hit the game winner with 14 seconds left and then came up with a steal 10 seconds later to lock up the victory. Rajon Rondo was the offensive start for the Celtics in this one tallying 30 points and adding 7 assists. Garnett chipped in 12 points and a team high 10 rebounds for Boston who was actually outrebounded by New York 53-37. The Knicks grabbed 20 offensive rebounds. Bill Walker was second behind Carmelo with 8 rebounds but hit none of his eleven field goal attempts.
Orlando 88 Atlanta 82
Dwight Howard turned in his second straight dominant performance, this time finishing with 33 points and 19 rebounds, but this time it led the Magic to victory evening their series with Atlanta at one game apiece. Once again Orlando struggled shooting the basketball connecting on just 34.6% of their field goals. No Magic player not named Dwight Howard (9/12) shot better 50% or better. The Hawks didn't fair much better though hitting just 39.5% of their field goals. Like Orlando, the Hawks had just one player shoot 50% from the floor and that was Josh Smith (8/14). Jamal Crawford came off the bench to score a team high 25. Al Horford had 10 points and 10 rebounds. The Magic held the Hawks to just 12 points in the 3rd quarter.
Dallas 101 Portland 89
The trendy upset pick in the first round failed to deliver for the second straight game falling into a 2-0 hole against Mark Cuban's Mavs. A one point game at the end of three quarters, Dallas outscored Portland 28-17 in the 4th to put the game away. Dirk Nowitzki scored a game high 33 points and Peja Stojakovic stepped out of a time machine to hit 5 three-pointers and score 21 for Dallas. LaMarcus Aldridge had another strong game for the Blazers finishing with 24 points and 10 rebounds, but Portland's usually reliable bench tallied just 11 points (10 by Nicolas Batum). Dallas turned the ball over only six times in the win as the series now heads to Portland.
