The Fantasy Hockey Experiment - Week 1

So, we're a week into the NHL Season and so far while the Fantasy Hockey Experiment is still far from being a resounding success, we're right in the thick of things. I was a little worried as headed into play last night we were sitting in 11th place out of 12 teams, but a couple of strong performances from my goalies later, here we are in 6th.

We made one move this week dumping Florida Panthers Left Winger Tomas Fleischmann in favor of a third goalie, Winnipeg Jets netminder Ondrej Pavelec. The issue didn't really come down to Fleischmann's performance, but rather the fact that we had four other left wings on the roster, and it just ended up being a numbers game. Because goalies play a much lower percentage of their team's games than the position players do, I'm finding it's advantageous to have that third goalie to increase the team's stats.

Biggest shortcomings on the roster right now are assists (10th), plus/minus (9th), power play points (10th) and Goals Against Average (10th). I'm hopeful that because we're just a week into the season, maybe we're just having a bad week in those areas. We'll see how it works out. I do know I'm going to need to get more production out of my defensemen if we're going to make any moves in the standings. So I see that being the next area we look to upgrade. Anyhow, here's a quick look at the NHL Standings/League Leaders a week in.
